Renovation of a characterful French mansion
A stately country house in Mouvaux in northern France underwent an impressive makeover. Rather than breaking with the past, it was given a stylish reinterpretation. Interior designer Kurt Demeulemeester brought the character of the property back to life with a fresh, contemporary touch. The result? A home that exudes charm and history, but is also completely in tune with the times.
In the heart of the French countryside, a stately country house was given a new lease of life. Not a classic refurbishment, but a total renovation in which every detail was reconsidered. Interior designer Kurt Demeulemeester took on the project with one clear mission: to preserve the grandeur of the past, but to bring in the comfort and style of today.
The result is a home that exudes charm and character, but is also completely ready for the future. The authentic elements: high ceilings, elegant mouldings and large windows, were carefully restored. At the same time, the house was equipped with the latest technology: underfloor heating, an energy-efficient heat pump and smart home automation ensure an unprecedented living experience.
The floor is an absolute eye-catcher in the interior. The elegant Mantaro herringbone Spice was chosen throughout the house. This choice is no coincidence: the classic pattern fits seamlessly with the stately appearance of the country house, while the material ensures ease of use and maintenance. The warm wood look brings a cosy atmosphere to every room and contrasts beautifully with the sleek, contemporary accents.
The interior design is a subtle interplay of old and new. Warm wood tones, soft natural stone and fine fabrics such as linen create a timeless elegance. Modern lighting elements add atmosphere and emphasise the architectural details of the property. Each room tells its own story, but together they form a harmonious whole.
This renovation is a textbook example of how to make a home future-proof while respecting the past. The mansion shines again, with a soul that remains tangible and a comfort that pampers you every day.

Mantaro Spice Herringbone
This herringbone floor stands out by its striking knots and colour hues. Thanks to the high number of different boards in this collection and a decor that is fully balanced, the Mantaro herringbone never becomes too much. The very mat appearance, the synchronous wood structure and the integrated underlay all make this floor one of a kind.
